PHILIPPINES TOP 5 BEACHES

A vacation in the Philippines would not be worth the dauntingly long plane ride (if you are coming from outside of Asia), nor would it be worth the inexorable Manila traffic, the wretched tropical heat, or your precious vacation leave from work if you don't explore any one of these Top 5 beaches.  You may as well save your take-home pay for an out-of-town trip to a nearby resort for the weekend.  Or pizzas and beers, as you wish.  Nevertheless, should you be en route to the Philippines, at least one or two of these beaches should go into your itinerary.

Some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are found in the Philippines.  There are 7,107 islands to explore.  Beaches like Boracay and Palawan are well-known throughout the world, but there are also untraveled beaches off-the-beaten path scattered in different pockets of the islands.  These new destinations are attracting lots of tourists from everywhere.  Our Top 5 list includes a mix of popular and little-known beaches.

#1 Boracay Island, Aklan

Boracay, more than any other beach in the country, needs no further introduction.  It is "the" most popular, most photographed, most awarded, and most talked about Asian tropical beach destination in the world.  There is no doubt that this picturesque island deserves its fame.  With no ifs and no buts about it, this island's famous pearl white sands, crystalline waters, and spellbinding sunsets, are not at all overrated.   Despite the bad reviews Boracay has been receiving about its rapid growth in commercial, residential, and industrial establishments, the best parts of the island have remained unblemished.

Boracay's Crystal Clear Blue Waters

Sand is so fine, it really feels like you are walking on white powder.

Skim Boarders against a tie-dye Sunset. Two uniquely Boracay experiences.

We can't really tell you how to get the most out of Boracay's sunsets but we do have a few suggestions:

  • Cruising on the wing of a hobiecat with your drink of choice, and music over your ipod.
  • Walking down the four kilometer stretch on White Beach.
  • On a lounging chair at a beachfront bar.
  • Taking photos.
  • Or like in the photo above, skim boarding.

GETTING THERE

The flight to Boracay is a quick one, about 45-50 minutes from Manila NAIA Domestic Airport or Cebu International Airport.  You can catch the direct flight to Caticlan then take a very short tricycle ride to the jetty port which leaves you with just a 10 minute banca ride before you get to the island.  The flights that land in Kalibo would have you on a 1 1/2 hour roadtrip via van or bus to Caticlan jettyport before boarding the 10 minute banca ride to the island.
